While a well-maintained stainless steel sink isn’t likely to rust, wet metal items left in it will leave behind rings or spots of rusty water which can be very difficult to remove without professional power clean.
A sink that is not properly maintained under the right conditions may lead to constant maintenance work as well as water being spit back through the tap since it no longer has a smooth surface underneath the finish. This can become annoying and time-consuming given one’s busy lifestyle.

Mix one part of water and one part of vinegar solution with enough baking soda to turn the mix into a paste consistency.

Mix Baking soda with water
Small rust spots in your sink don’t take much effort to remove. First, you’ll need to acquire 2 cups of water and a tablespoon of baking soda and put them in a container or bowl.
Stir until the ingredients blend to form an effective mix. You may be worried that baking soda will damage your stainless steel sink, but thanks to its mild abrasive tendencies, it’s also safe to use on the kitchen fixture without damaging its surface.
Rub the mixture together
Get your mixture together and apply it to the sink which has rust on them in an evenly spread out manner. Make sure you do not apply more mixture than is needed.
Rub the mixture using a clean, soft cloth until you’re sure that all of the rust has been removed from the sink.
Rinse with clean water
After thoroughly removing any and all rust, use clean water to remove any residue. Then gently dry the area with a soft towel, ensuring you don’t leave behind unwanted streaks which may blur the item’s appearance after it has been ironed.
Vinegar Method
Vinegar Method Steps Placing a thin cotton cloth onto the surface of the rust and with it, pour some vinegar on to soak the fabric. Let it sit for 5-10 minutes and then dab off with a dry cloth or paper towel.
Repeat until the rust is removed and you’re left with a good shine. If there’s still some rust that remains on the surface.
Do this whole process one more time before placing a thin coat of spray shield onto your stainless steel surface to protect it against further damage during cleaning or placement in moist environments.
Lemon and Baking Soda Solution
1/2 cup lemon juice 2 cups of baking soda  Mix these two ingredients to make a cleaning solution.
Use a soaked cloth or sponge and apply the mixture to the surface with rust stains
Let the mixture sit for 10-20 minutes and wipe it clean with water. To avoid any further damage, make sure to coat your metal surfaces in vinegar before using any abrasive chemicals.
Using Oxalic Acid
Using oxalic acid to make rust-removing preparations is more quickly done than you realize. By using a specialty product that’s not too abrasive and safe for stainless steel, the process gets done fast.
One way to do this is by using the cleaner Bar Keepers Friend Soft Cleanser which is one of the most used ones in rust removal.
Wet your sink area first then rub it with a sponge. Clean it up quick enough after trying this so as not to let water sit in it too long as letting water sit in causes more rusting.
