Level the ground by removing high spots and filling in low ones. Use 2x4s to build a level surface on top of your leveled ground.

Level your terrain until it’s all level, then repeat. Tamp down any nails or rocks that stick up out of the ground with a shovel and rake away any stumps or debris, leaving only dirt behind.

We will discuss how to level the ground for a pool here.

Clean Up The Area

Before getting started putting up a swimming pool, you’ll want to ensure that your area is clear of any items make sure there are no loose rocks or branches.

If you’re the do-it-yourself type, feel free to remove these yourself. It’s crucial to take care of this before continuing because if not you could risk causing damage by letting these objects remain.

When clearing the area where your above-ground pool will end up, it’s important to remove all grass or plants with a sod cutter as well as any roots or other objects that may interfere with the setting up of your pool.

Using A Leveling Device

To level out the land, you will need leveling equipment. Using a spirit level and two-by-fours of wood, you can easily measure the evenness of surface topography by measuring the flatness of the ground’s contours.

Lay down one piece of lumber on the ground; set the spirit level on it and use a tape measure to make sure that both tools are completely level with each other.

The leveling equipment will indicate which regions need additional attention since soil disturbances will either raise or lower adjoining areas depending on what is being done to them.

Leveling Ground

You can use a shovel to level out a plot of land that is suitable for your home design by either adding soil or subtracting soil until it is perfectly flat.

When the ground has been leveled, you will then need to dig at any bumps in the earth with the shovel so that they are flush with the rest of the yard’s surface.

If there are holes that look like they might interfere with your new landscaping project, fill them in using more excavated soil from either nearby areas or a stockpile that you have handy.

Smooth It Out With Sand

Your above-ground swimming pool installation will require a certain amount of sand depending on the size of your pool.

As a foundation layer, and should be at least 2 inches thick to support your pool and serve as a natural barrier against grass, weeds, and puncture wounds that may occur during this process.

Use a rake to spread the sand evenly across the ground where you intend to build your pool. Once the sand has been smoothed out with a rake and it is even, next water it down which will help settle it into place before leaving it to dry overnight.

Make The Sand Compact

Once you have placed the sand in a flattened area, it will need to be packed down into a flat surface so it can serve as a solid foundation.

You can do this by using lawn roller that you either rent or hire out at your local garden center. After you’ve gone over the entire area with a roller and packed it down flat, then use your leveler device to check if everything is leveled properly.

If an area hasn’t been flattened out completely, fix it by using some more sand and padding it over evenly with the roller again until perfected.

Place The Base Protector

Once you have a solid foundation of leveled-out sand, you can start to lay down the pool pad. We recommend using a specialized pool pad this usually entails a large layer of foam or tarp that will sit under the swimming pool, adding another protective layer.

The addition of a base layer will lower the risks of puncturing the liner and help insulate the pool so as not to lose any heat once it’s pumped in. At an absolute minimum, it’s recommended to lay down a sheet or tarp.

Install The Pool

All that’s left to do is set up your above-ground swimming pool. Your installation process will depend on the size and manufacturer of your pool, so carefully check your product instructions or hire a professional to set the pool up for you if you don’t feel confident doing it yourself.

We hope this guide has helped you with leveling out the ground before installing your new swimming pool.
