Kenmore dishwasher not draining
Why my Kenmore dishwasher is having problems draining? If the valve seems to be stuck, then it will prevent your water from draining.
If your drain valve is indeed stuck, try cleaning it out and replacing it if necessary. The hose connecting the sink to the dishwasher may have an obstruction in it.
To unclog that hose, remove it from both the dishwasher and the sink and clean out any dishes particles or food residue.
Replacing the drain impeller
It can be difficult to detect whether the cause of clogged drains is a result of faulty pipes or an issue with the drain pump so that it is working properly.
Usually, this means that there’s a problem somewhere within the inner workings of the pump! Many problems with drainage are a result of internal damage by this component, even if it means replacing some pipes on occasion to speed up recovery time.
There is no substitute for doing whatever must be done rather than using ineffective preventative measures like chemical treatments.
Solenoid kit replacement
The solenoid kit operates the drainage valve and sends waste material out of the unit.
If you are having issues with the solenoid kit, we would recommend replacing it because it is a throwaway part due to its inability to be repaired.
Defective drain pump
The drain pump consists of a motor and impeller to force the waste material into the hose. If the motor is faulty, you need to replace it. Connect a multimeter to the motor to check the continuity.
A lack of continuity means the motor is not working, so you must replace it.
Motors can be replaced, but they are not repairable as such; for example, once there is a problem with an electric circuit motor, then the whole idea is to replace it because conductors aren’t serviceable in any way.
Water pump belt
The water pump belt is uncommon in most of the models. However, to check if your unit contains such a belt and if it is working well, you need to remove the lower panel.
Underneath the motor, you would find a water pump belt. If there is a clicking sound produced or if the motor lights up but doesn’t produce any movement while running, then it’s likely that your water pump belt has become loose.
If this is the case, then please get it replaced immediately by a reputed professional.
Faulty Drain Valve
Eventually, the drain valve can become clogged with debris. It is essential to clean this part if you want the water to flow correctly and in the right direction.
If the drain valve doesn’t function when activated, but there are no complications, replace it. If there is something wrong with this part, it can’t be repaired; you should get rid of it and get a replacement.
Dirty Drain Hose
There might be trash in the drain hose, preventing water from leaving the dishwasher effectively. Check the drain to see if anything is clogging it up, and remove any debris that you find.
If a garbage disposal unit is being utilized, clearing out the filter may solve this issue. If not, then the cause may lie somewhere farther upstream such as in a kink or pebble that’s been jammed into the pipe.
Faulty Check Ball
The check ball is a small plastic ball in the check valve that prevents water from returning to the dishwasher after the dishwasher has drained.
If you can’t free it by hand, try using the handle of a spoon or butter knife inserted into the drain opening around the ball to turn it. If all else fails, remove and clean out the valve and replace it with a new one.
Check Valve defect
It’s important to have a check valve in your dishwasher. This is what stops water from flowing backward into it when the dishwasher starts to drain.
For example, the water may start draining but then the water level stays the same because it is starting to flow backward into the dishwasher because of air bubbles formed at the bottom of a washtub.
If your kitchen sink is connected to your dishwasher via an extension hose, this could mean that there are air bubbles being pulled back into the dishwasher at cup level and it might require you to replace or clean out this part in order for things to run properly again.
