Rheem Air Conditioner Not Cooling

Rheem Air Conditioner Not Cooling. An AC unit is present in many homes nationwide, if you’re experiencing problems with your AC not cooling properly, it could be for one of a variety of common reasons.

Understanding some of the most common AC problems that may arise can help keep you more aware and prepared in case a problem does pop up in your home.

There are a lot of reasons why your air conditioner might not be working effectively, but there are also solutions to prevent such problems from happening at all! Below lists 11 causes for no cooling on an Air Conditioning Unit.

This article discusses some problems with Rheem’s air conditioner when it is not cooling.

Control Board ForTemperature

One common problem with an air conditioner is that a faulty temperature control board makes it so that the components in the system do not get the power to run.

It’s important to note that this is often misdiagnosed; make sure you check other parts of an air conditioner before replacing the temperature control board.

Once you are sure that all parts are working properly, replace the temperature control board.

Thermostat Problem

The thermostat is the brain of the air conditioner system. This device monitors the temperature of the room, and when it detects a rise above a certain level, it activates the switch that provides power to the fan and compressor.

If the thermostat does not send continuous power to this portion of the HVAC equipment, it won’t work properly.

To determine if you need to replace your thermostat, turn off both the fan and compressor in your air conditioning unit; then, using a multimeter, test for continuity on all wires going into and out of your old thermostat.

If no register continuity when turned to “Cool,” replace your original thermostat with a new one.

Issue With Air Filters

If the air filter is clogged, air cannot flow properly through the air conditioner. This greatly reduces the cooling capacity of the whole system, including all of the components involved in making it happen, such as all of the vents, fans, and whatnot.

Plus, if the filters are clogged up, you run the risk of damaging more than just your unit’s overall efficiency.

If you’re looking for a new alternative that will give you a permanent solution to make sure your HVAC unit maintains peak performance, then look no further than an electronic air cleaner.

Dirty Condenser Coils

The condenser coils dissipate the heat as the refrigerant passes through the coils. If they are dirty, they won’t be able to dissipate the heat effectively.

Debris builds up, and the air conditioner becomes less efficient until it is no longer functioning at optimal capacity because either the coils or compressor have been damaged.

Making it run continuously in an attempt to keep temperatures down and eventually completely breaking down in no time. So now that you know how important keeping your condenser clean is.

Faulty Compressor

The compressor might be broken. Fortunately, this is quite uncommon (though possible). Before replacing the compressor, step back and check other common suspects, such as the overload protector or the condenser.

If it’s the compressor that’s defective, we do not recommend doing so yourself! Let a licensed technician take care of this.

Error Running Capacitor

The run capacitor is something most people first become aware of when their air conditioning unit breaks down.

If the compressor circuit burns out, replacing the run capacitors can help get things back up and running as normal again.

You can check for capacitor issues by using a multimeter for continuity testing to see if it’s working properly or should be replaced.

Cause With Thermistor

The thermistor is a sensor that detects air temperature and sends information to the control board. If the air gets too hot, it will send the board an electrical current in order to prevent overheating of the device.

Therefore, measuring the resistance value of this sensor can help determine if it has been damaged at all.

In case there’s no continuity or in case the value doesn’t change in conjunction with a change in temperature of the air, it must be replaced for safety concerns.
